Hot Flashes

by Dr. Montana Belford

Why am I getting hot flashes?

Hot flashes are a result of hormone imbalance, which happens to all women as we age.

That being said, hot flashes aren’t something you have to suffer through. That’s right, you don’t have to just suck it up and deal with them! My job is to figure out the root cause of your hormone imbalance, which is different for every woman. It can be related to detoxification issues, stress, hormone production issues or excess hormones that overwhelms your system, past menstrual history, pelvic conditions or diseases, hysterectomy, and more. And most likely, your hormone imbalances are a combination of any number of these things. During menopause, estrogen and progesterone (major roles in the menstrual cycle) levels drop which affects your core body temperature. Your body’s response to the temperature change is hot flashes. If it happens at night, the rapid rise in temperature spikes adrenaline, which launches you out of sleep, putting your body on high alert, and making it impossible to fall asleep again. It can become an endless, frustrating cycle of sweating so profusely you have to change your clothes multiple times a day and being exhausted from poor sleep at night due to night sweats that you can’t fall back to sleep from.

In the office, I’m going to look at specific diet and lifestyle changes we can make to help balance your hormones and support how your body should be functioning during this time. With chiropractic care I also look at supporting your hormones through the nervous system and organ systems involved.

“Perimenopause” and “menopause” tend to conjure thoughts of years of suffering unpleasant symptoms, being uncomfortable in your own skin, and oftentimes flat out miserable. But it doesn’t have to be that way! I’m here to help YOU take control of your health, balance your hormones, and live a confident life in whatever stage you are in.
